for context this takes place before thorfinn becomes a farmer if i remember correctly. Thorfinn willingly becomes a slave after Canute becomes the new king and even asks Canute to make him a slave and send him off. This scene is hard to piece together because of the time skip in the prior episodes and now we have a flashback to the past this episode.
